and frankly, the points you raise have been quite obvious from the start for those who actually have played this genre extensively.

Let us hope they took some of the improved aspects of Mordhau's tech and combat and bring back the game so many of us love!Ĭomming from someone who has played AoC, Chivalry, DW, Mirage and Mordhau I can say that this post is pretty spot on. These are my personal thoughts about Mordhau vs Chivalry/Chivalry 2 and why I believe Chivalry 2 is something we should all be very excited for if it is meant to be a spiritual successor. Where is its personality, culture, lore, true team gameplay?Īnyways, hope I didn't run on too long. What's special about being glorified Red Vs Blue with basically NO DIFFERENCES? It improved the impact the game had significantly over Mordhau. The Agatha Knights vs Mason Order with their own distinct architecture, characters, lore, and culture really made the team modes more meaningful and immersive too. Chivalry was a wonderful social experience partly due to this. This combined with the distinctive team differences in the characters made the whole thing really fun to play. They amplify any actual objectives that must be made, because people are brought together and forced to be dependent on each other at all times. Reason being, more linear objective systems bring people together. While this may sound like a good idea in most cases, in an objective based game it's not. I believe one reason behind this is because the map design was more open rather than linear. The objective based maps on Mordhau are fine and all but I've never felt as invested or drawn into the match as much. Team Objective was also very popular, felt rewarding, and made everyone feel like they had a role to play. Even if they did, you still can have a lot of fun because the game was designed in a way that made you laugh and feel INVESTED in the characters and the game. And their team objective mode and maps I personally found to be much better than Mordhau's as well While Chivalry wasn't as good as Mordhau on the tech side of things(even though they were innovative for their time), they dumped all their heart and creative energy into making a FUN, hilarious game experience. They missed the fundamental parts that made Chivalry great Those things are not enough to sustain a game and make it fun for everyone to play. But it's just not as special or memorable - because it was not their creative focus, their passion was on making a good combat system and making freedom of expression in combat. You can tell they tried - they really did try to match the same hilarity and goofiness as chivalry. I don't believe they did nearly as good of a job as Chivalry on basically every aspect besides the combat. One of the biggest downfalls in my opinion is Mordhau focused on making a really nice game tech-wise, and then they basically tried throwing in chivalry-like comedy and game modes on top of that. Competition is lots of fun! But when it feels like it's all the game is, with none of the stuff chivalry had that let you take a break from that part of the game, what's the point? May sound fun at first, but is that as enticing as the idea behind Chivalry: Medieval Warfare? Not at all.

Mordhau mostly feels like you're just competing to compete and prove who is better. Chivalry was also competitive, but on top of that it had the absolutely wonderful lore, culture, and character to make it truly stand out. Some of you hardcore mordhau fans may disagree with me, which is fine, but this is my experience.Īt the current state Mordhau just feels like a sweaty nerd competition. Mordhau = better tech, fancier visuals, better netcodeĬhivalry = better, more investing team objective modes, more culture, more hilarious comedy, much more memorable moments Now, for the Mordhau vs Chivalry discussions Torn Banner has done some wrong and they may not be the best developers in the world but they've truly made a one of a kind game that will always be in my heart, and it had a very long run so you know they know what they're doing(except for Mirage and DW we don't talk about those) I get on every night hoping some servers will be populated. I still enjoy Chivalry 1 WAY more than mordhau. For all those who haven't personally played much Chivalry or Mordhau, I have a personal little perspective on this.
